Moombahton is one of the hottest club sounds of the moment. But for the uninitiated, here’s a brief guide.
Put simply, Moombahton is a combination of Dutch house and reggaeton, combining the sounds of Dutch and electro house with the 108-112 bpm speed of reggaeton.

So the story goes, in 2009 Dave Nada (half of Nadastrom) was booked to play a gig and rocked up to find everyone getting down to reggaeton. Having already planned to play electro and Dutch house music but not wanting to mess with the vibe, Nada played Afrojack’s remix of Moombah by Silvio Ecomo & DJ Chuckie (usually 128bpm) at a more reggaeton compatible 108bpm. With a vison for his new sound in mind, Dave Nada headed to the studio and released an EP of edits in 2010.
Moombahton was born! (Moombah + Reggaeton = Moombahton! Geddit?)

And what’s a genre without subgenres? It wasn’t long before moombahcore popped up, with artists such as Skrillex and Knife Party bringing heavy basslines and synths often associated with dubstep into the mix.
Dillon Francis - I.D.G.A.F.O.S.
Moombahton and it’s related subgenres have grown far beyond one man’s spur-of-the-moment decision to play slowed-down Dutch house; moombahton producer Dillon Francis scored a number one on the Beatport charts and many large EDM names such as Laidback Luke, Porter Robinson, Toddla T, 12th Planet, Tiesto, John Dåhlback, and Diplo have dabbled with the genre.
Always staying ahead of the curve when it comes to electronic music, plenty of moombahton has been played across many shows on Soundpond.net, but it’s definitely about time we got a whole bunch of Adelaide DJs together to do the first 6-hour Pond Jam dedicated to the sound.
It’s a pretty strong line-up if we say so ourselves:
