Soundpond.net’s Monday night Pond Jams are open to all kinds of sounds, from banging club anthems to boundary-pushing sounds. Next Monday’s Pond Jam, curated by Kid Language Barrier, sets out to explore the world of experimental electronic music. KLB has selected Soundpond.net hosts Getoblondie and Josh Warry as well as Justin of Mode Masters and Anomie to join him, all selected for their love of experimental sounds. Here’s what KLB has to say about Monday night’s offerings:
“First and foremost, sorry. I’m sorry for what we’re about to put you though. The music for this Pond Jam is going to vary from slightly strange but still accessible to the abrasive and challenging. The DJ’s I’ve collected for this Pond Jam have an incredible and eclectic taste in music that spans far beyond what we usually hear from them. We will often hear pieces of music that we love and want other people to hear, but dont get the opportunity to play them out because they’re too strange or too hard/impossible to dance to. For this Pond Jam, I wanted an opportunity to let these guys run wild and play WHATEVER they wanted as long as it was a bit odd. It’s gonna be a weird ride, so grab a drink, sit back and try to enjoy. ”

We asked some of the DJs what experimental music means to them:
Kid Language Barrier
“I’ve always been attracted to the stranger ends of various genres. When music fits perfectly into a style or category, it can end up feeling formulaic regardless of its quality. The music I value the most has always been something that makes me ask “what the fuck is that?”. Anything that sounds unique automatically wins points in my book. As a DJ I’ve always enjoyed playing the game of ‘I wonder whats the weirdest stuff i can get these guys to dance to’ (usually this game ends fairly quickly). In a way, I feel that strange and experimental music is a protest against the worst thing that any music can be: inoffensive”
Kid Language Barrier hosts “Swish” on Soundpond.net every Tuesday 2-4pm.
Anomie

“If I wake up and don’t put some sort of music on I feel kind of stressed, like a caffeine addict not getting that morning coffee on the way to work, I have to start my day with some music. Being the type of person that listens to music as much as possible I developed a habit of having to continually find and learn about different genres, experiencing new formats to play music on and generally just immerse myself within music as much as possible at all times. I think there is a beauty in discovering new, weird, experimental and foreign music. It is as exciting as it is rewarding to sit back with your headphones on and experience something for the first time in complete awe. Even if two years ago you passed something off as rubbish, and you’ve finally come back to it and had that light bulb realisation of how incredible a challenging piece of music was – that is what excites and motivates me to push the limits of what I understand music to be”
Josh Warry
“I’ve got a huge soft spot for emotional provoking and atmospheric music, and I found complete and utter immersion in so many areas of experimental, predominantly Ambient/Drone music. The complete freedom of both listeners and creators of experimental music is unspassable. The way it can create such clear imagery whilst listening is absolutely incredible. I love the way that with this kind of music, you can be taken to a whole new place if you let yourself go while listening. Throughout my set, i’m going to start by showcasing some ambient tunes that have provoked a heavy emotional response, aswell as some of my own productions, before moving into the more “full on” side of experimental. I’m pretty excited for this; it’s not everyday you get the chance to play this kind of music to a willing audience.”
Josh Warry hosts “Bass & Beyond” on Soundpond.net with Skippy every Thursday 6-8pm.
Getoblondie
Getoblondie is part of the crew behind the “Sidewalk” nights at Cuckoo Bar and specialises in glitchy and wonky beats as well as hip-hop and bass music.
