Soundpond.net is proud to announce a partnership with TechPhonics, a brand known for consistently bringing some of the best filthy house and dirty tech to Adelaide.

2010 saw TechPhonics and Soundpond join forces for the first time, with TechPhonics, hosted by Matt Abstrax, becoming a weekly show on the station. Now one of the longest running shows on Soundpond.net, we are excited to be taking the next step in our partnership, with a greater involvement in their quality parties and events.

Adelaide is home of several independent labels to be proud of and Soundpond.net is always happy to let them take over our airwaves to showcase their sounds. Nostalgia Entertainment and Cuckoo Music have both hosted excellent Monday night Pond Jams in the past and now it’s time to hand over the reigns to another local label for the evening…

Pilot Records is an independent record label founded in Adelaide, Australia in 2012, also where the label is currently based. The label is most notable for releasing music of live electronic nature while maintaining the use of more traditional ‘band’ instruments such as guitar, bass, drums etc – something that the label likes to refer to as ‘hybrid electronic music’.

Upon founding the label, Pilot Records would abide by its mission statement: “Pilot Records strives to create and support original music of the highest quality composition and production, alongside the best in live entertainment – all the time drawing inspiration from the greatest artists, technologies and ideals from the past and the present to help the music industry maintain an original, exciting and innovative future for both recorded and live music.”

A selection of artists from the label’s roster, as well as the label’s owners, will be providing the sounds on Monday’s Pond Jam with a combination of live performances and DJ sets.

Pilot Records Jam streams live with video on www.soundpond.net from 6pm Monday 8th October.

Run the trap? Damn son where did you find this? It’s a Trap?

Trap is a buzzword that has been flying about quite a bit recently but what exactly is it? We think music blog Stoney Roads puts it pretty concisely:

The origin of the Trap genre is characterized by an aggressive attitude in sound, incorporating brass, triangle, snappy snares and hi hats, loud kicks, and booming 808′s from the Southern Crunk scene. Traditionally speaking, rappers like Waka FlockaYoung JeezyLex Luger and Gucci Mane would be classified as the original sound of Trap, however, the genres recent evolution has seen the popularity of techno and dub sounds incorporated more significantly into the overall trending sound.

Erick “E” Watson. You never took a selfie this expensive.

Erick “E” Watson has been making a huge impact in Adelaide, not just as a top-shelf photographer, but as a firm believer in growing various scenes.  He’s also a qualified top bloke, a good sport, and has a firm handshake.  A constant reminder that it’s entirely possible to be a top-tier professional without having a stick up your ass.  Soundpond.net sat him down to get an insight into the 19kg (at most), ever energetic, ever smiling, weirdly haired bouncy bundle of incredibly talented goodness.

We recently ran a comp aimed at getting an Artist engaged with Soundpond.  Vol 1 (which you can read about here) was a chance to bring our brand new, custom built monitor stands to life.  Soundpond’s lifeblood is music, and it pours from the speakers for 14 hours (every day) of live shows, they deserved to be mounted on pedestals crafted with passion.  Big ups to Station Show host “Jason Lee” for building the stands, a custom design featuring ratchet attach points and a slot for gym weights.  A cheap, economical way to make rock-steady stands.  (Feel free to rip the design!)
