Nothing Happens in Adelaide is our weekly round up of the hottest acts to hit the local clubs. To have your gig featured here for free, email contact@soundpond.net with a picture of a flyer and a bit of info about your event and artist.

HTFU are bringing hard dance back to Adelaide in a big way, putting on huge international names and local legends alike. Their next party focuses on the latter, featuring some of Adelaide’s favourite hard dance DJs from over the years.

The return of the captain is being celebrated, with ODYSSEY making a comeback, gracing the decks for an exclusive 2 hour set.   Also rocking the boat will be MR S, DEVIOUS, HOOVER CREW and KAEDANCE.

The party runs from 5:30pm until late with the boat departing from Queens Wharf, Port Adelaide on Saturday 20th April.

Early bird tickets are $25 each and you’d be wise to grab yours ASAP as we can pretty confidently say this will sell out. Contact HTFU Adelaide, Sarah Burton or Shane Piercy to organise tickets.

Local house, tech house and techno crew TECHPHONICS are on absolute fire at the moment, announcing quality guest acts left, right and centre. After a solid 2012 they show no signs of slowing down this year and have just announced French guru AGORIA will be joining them for their next party, playing an intimate club set in new party space Mr Kim’s.

Agoria started producing and releasing his own tracks in 1999 and first gained international recognition with a series of 12s on Pias Recordings in 2002, and followed by the acclaimed album Blossom a year later. Since then, Agoria has released three more long-players The Green Armchair (2006), soundtrack Go Fast (2008), and Impermanence (2011) all showcasing Agoria’s talent for creating deep, stripped-back, melodic, techno tracks.

In addition Agoria has compiled three mix-cds that present his unique ability in pairing tracks of very different origins and layering them in creative, sometimes even awe-inspiring ways. Deservedly so, Resident Advisor named his contribution to the At The Controls series from 2007 as one of the best mix-cds of the past decade. Agoria’s mixes on the well-known Balance and Fabric labels also sit proudly in many a music lover’s cd collection.

TechPhonics proudly presents AGORIA on Friday 1st March at Mr Kim’s. Support from Carter Bros, Matt Abstrax, Joe Miller, Trav Bell and Gorgeous George.

The high quality sets of Spin DJ 2013 contestants continued last night with even more viewers than last week joining us to see four DJ acts go head-to-head to win a spot in the grand final.

It was yet another hard call to make for judges Skippy and Adam Daze, with Mister Bizkut, Rowzee, Trax & Stix and Rowzee all bringing their A-game and spinning close to flawless sets.

It was Weez who won the second round, the DnB selector smashing out a high-energy set that was absolutely seamless and featured several double drops.

Read on for Skippy’s notes notes on all contestants’ sets.

It was hotly contended, with Daniel Constantine, Bottle Rockets, Last Resort and Nik C all impressing us in different ways in their 30 minute sets.

It wasn’t an easy decision, but the winners of the first qualifying round are DJ/percussion duo LAST RESORT who impressed with an energetic set of house and breaks coupled with live drumming and sample triggering.

The sets were judged by Soundpond.net founders Skippy and Adam Daze. Read on for Skippy’s notes notes on all contestants’ sets.

Thanks to everyone that sent in an entry for Spin DJ 2013. With the calibre of entries very high, it was a hard task but the twelve DJs/acts to progress to the qualifying round have been chosen! Over the next 3 weeks they will be battling it out on the Soundpond.net airwaves to secure their place in the grand final at Sugar on 1st March at and ultimately, their name on the Future Music Festival line up as well as an awesome prize pack.

Here’s how it’s gonna work.

Over the next three Mondays (4th, 11th and 18th February) from 8pm, four DJs will play a 30 minute set live on Soundpond.net. The judges favourite from each week will progress to the final. Of the nine remaining DJs/acts that didn’t win their heat, an additional finalist will be selected to join the final as a “wild card”.

The four finalists will play a 30 minute set each at Sugar on Friday 1st March, where the Spin DJ 2013 winner will be decided.

Let’s meet the qualifiers:

BottleRockets – BottleRockets made it to the final of Spin DJ 2011 as a duo. Now just a solo DJ act, BottleRockets still brings a frenetic house party mash of booty beats, hip hop, rock, pop, retro and electro.

Daniel Constantine – “My djing is very beatmix and layering orientated, mixing 2/3/4 tracks together as long as I can and as long as they work” says Daniel. More impressive still, his sets consist of ENTIRELY his own house and techno productions.

Dubrat – “To be honest I’ve never heard another DJ that goes in as deep or broad as me.” writes Dubrat. A bold claim, but after listening to cross-genre mix of new and fascinating sounds, we think we agree.

Josh Pathon – This producer/DJ provided a sweet mix of irresistible deep house grooves featuring several of his own productions. Very nice.

Last Resort – Spanning jackin’ house, electro and breaks, this duo definitely had us moving with their high energy set spiced up with live percussion.

Lincoln Sayle – Lincoln used 3 CDJs to deliver a set of solid electro and house he describes as “different”, “very mashy uppery”, “jazzy” and “pretty banging“.

Mister Bizkut – Mister Bizkut is a multi-genre specialist always on the lookout for that edgy surprise for the listener, bringing breakbeat mayhem with classic mashups and turntablist tendencies.

Nik C – Deep house, tech house and techno are Nik’s specialty and he mixes them solidly all on vinyl and with some nice chopping and trickery on the faders.

Rework’d – Playing across the house spectrum, this duo’s selection of disco, tech, progressive and electro includes feel good moments, big room drops and classic vocals.

Rowzee – Banging beats and heavy basslines to smash the club coupled with reggae and tropical rhythms. Rowzee definitely has a distinct style of his own.

Trax & Stix – Trax & Stix are a DJ/percussion duo with Stix drumming along to Trax’s selection of Funky tech house & techno, with influences of house, trance and progressive.

Weez – “I’m definitely a dance floor DJ” says DnB selector Weez. “There has to be a few good double drops and tracks that everyday punter will recognise as well as some fresh tracks for the heads”
